Par for the Course – First Tee of Greater Akron Hosts Successful Charity Golf Classic & Silent Auction
Firestone Country Club was the host for the 2019 First Tee of Greater Akron Charity Golf Classic & Silent Auction presented by FirstEnergy. 116 golfers teed it up and competed in a scramble on Firestone’s West Course. Congratulations to the 2019 winning team from Kenmore Construction, captained by First Tee of Greater Akron Board Member Sam Scala. The teams from GPD Group and THOMARIOS were a close second, only one-shot back.
The highlight of the day was the par 3 14th hole. After hearing about the importance of using good judgment from Alexandria Vardon, a First Tee participant from Akron, foursomes had the opportunity to donate and play the hole with kids in First Tee programming. All the groups benefitted from the exceptional tee shots and putting displayed by Ellie Gonzalez Ribble and her sister Emma of Barberton. Emma won the “closest to the pin” competition, with her tee shot coming to rest only six inches from the hole.
Off the course, the event also featured a silent auction with over 60 items/experiences as well as a 50/50 raffle. All proceeds from the event go directly towards First Tee of Greater Akron programming and scholarships. Jeff O’Brien, Executive Director of First Tee of Greater Akron commented “It is great seeing so many community leaders come together to support our mission and the Nine Core Values of the First Tee.”
