The First Tee of Greater Akron Awards Ray Kapper-First Tee of Greater Akron Endowed Scholarship to Nicholas Culver
August 30, 2017 – Akron, OH: The First Tee of Greater Akron (TFTGA) is pleased and proud to announce that recent Ellet High School graduate Nicholas Culver has been selected as the inaugural recipient of the Ray Kapper – First Tee of Greater Akron Endowed Scholarship at the University of Akron. The creation of the scholarship was undertaken by TFTGA to recognize the long involvement of one of its board members, Ray Kapper, and his contributions to the young people of TFTGA and the community in general.
“I am very honored that Nick has been selected for the scholarship that bears my name,” said Kapper. “Nick’s young life has embodied First Tee’s core values of a successful life. One of those values, perseverance, uniquely describes Nick. He has overcome the challenges of autism to graduate with a 3.76 cumulative grade point average. Nick also captained the Ellet Varsity Golf Team of 2016-2017 and has volunteered at the First Tee and recently at the Bridgestone Invitational.”
Culver is grateful for the selection by TFTGA and the Kapper family and is honored to be the scholarship’s first recipient. Nick is a First Tee Scholar, a distinction awarded to teen participants who excel in academics, leadership, character development, and chapter and community involvement.
